Spring Tapping Guides

Spring Tapping Guides

Handy accessories for any machinist, these spring tapping guides ensure you start every tap or reamer straight with perfect alignment.

The Micro Spring Tapping Guide has a reversible ø4.75mm hardened guide centre point with adjustable spring pressure. The reverse end of guide is female for use with small taps which have a conical end but no centre hole.

The Spring Tapping Guide has a larger ø9.5mm guide centre point and will handle larger taps more easily.

Both tapping guides have hardened and ground shanks and are suitable for use on a lathe, mill or drill.

How Spring Tapping Guides Work

Lathe:

  • Grip the Guide's shank in the tailstock chuck.
  • Locate nose of tap in hole to be tapped and move tailstock to engage the tapping guide's point in centre hole of the tap or tap wrench.
  • Adjust tailstock to compress the guide's spring and commence tapping.
  • As the hole is tapped, the guide follows the tap keeping it aligned.

Mill/Drill:

  • Grip the Guide's shank in a drill chuck or collet.
  • make sure the guide is correctly aligned with the pilot hole (it should be if you just drilled it Smile).
  • Locate nose of tap in hole to be tapped and lower the spindle to engage the tapping guide's point in centre hole of the tap or tap wrench.
  • Lower the spindle further to compress the guide's spring and commence tapping.
  • As the hole is tapped, the guide follows the tap keeping it aligned.
